Na Tosha N. Gatson, Dr.

Dr. Na Tosha N. Gatson is an Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM) tenured professor of neurology, neurosurgery, and medicine. She also serves in the role as director of the Center for Neuro-Oncology as part of the IU Health (IUH) Neuroscience and Cancer Institutes.  Dr. Gatson further holds the distinction as a Master Clinician of Neuro-Oncology funded by the IU Health Foundation. Dr. Gatson completed her undergraduate studies at Indiana University Purdue University Fort Wayne, before spending the next 15 years training at The Ohio State University (OSU) College of Medicine where she completed a dual doctorate (MD, PhD) in in molecular virology, immunology, and medical genetics with a major emphasis on neuroimmunology.  While at OSU, Dr. Gatson completed a neurosurgical oncology post-doctoral research fellowship, and neurology residency training. She finalized her studies as a neuro-oncology fellow at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas.  Dr. Gatson is also distinguished as a Fellow of the American Academy of Neurology and has been involved to write national and international neurology guidelines for best clinical practice.

Prior to Dr. Gatson's appointment with IUSM/IUH, she served as the charter Medical Director of Neuro-Oncology at both Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center in Arizona, and Geisinger Health in Pennsylvania, demonstrating excellence in neuro-oncology program development.  Dr. Gatson’s practice philosophy is rooted in compassionate and evidence-based care that extends quality LIVING.  Her research is focused on population science, brain tumor imaging, and the Neuro-Oncology of Women (N.O.W. - a subfield she founded).  Dr. Gatson is dedicated to patient health literacy and founded a nonprofit called, Living Oncology, which is a community outreach initiative aimed to educate physicians, patients, caregivers, and scientists around advances in best patient care delivery.
